About Me
My name is Andrew Shields and I am a level designer who just graduated from the Game Design program at Vancouver Film School where I won two awards for ‘Best Machinima’ and ‘Best Flash Game’. I have always been very passionate about games, and as fun as they are too play, I find more joy in creating them. What I love most is that as the level designer it is my responsibility to teach players how to play the game, create the right pacing, and introduce players to the world – it truly is a fascinating process. As a recent graduate, I am looking for a level design position where I can continue to pursue my passion in a studio that recognizes creativity, hard work, and a positive attitude...
King of the Pond
Nominated for the VFS 'Best Board Game' award
A well balanced board game I created in 6 weeks. King of the Pond has an extremely simple 'leap frog' mechanic that provides a layer of depth that isn't apparent at first glance. This is a two player game that requires plenty of strategy in order to lead your army of frogs to be the King of the Pond.
Deserted History
Blending of organic plant life and inorganic alien structures.
We were given a template of a bridge to set dress in our environmental level design class. In Unreal Development Kit I went about creating an alien-like structure amidst organic objects such as trees and bushes which brought about an interesting atmosphere.
Plunger Lunger
Nominated for VFS 'Best Final Project' award, on Steam Greenlight and profiled by AntVenom
A retro-style 2D grapple-hook game where the player traverses through levels as a boy-genius at high speeds by swinging around with a plunger gun. With an endearing 16-bit art style Plunger Lunger provides plenty of laughs and excitement with crazy death animations, intense swinging sequences while avoiding death, and an addictive level of difficulty that will keep you wanting more.

Portfolio
My portfolio showcases some of the many projects I have worked on throughout the past year. These projects include level design, environmental level design, and game design.
The Limit
Winner of the VFS 'Best Machinima' award
The limit is a two minute Machinima video made using Grand Theft Auto 4 and video editing software. I created a story about a man who has to make a life-changing decision when confronted with the opportunity to kill the man that ruined his life.
Misty Arrows
Single player experience focusing on flow and pacing
In Misty Arrows I focused on pacing and flow by teaching players the main mechanic which is required in order to complete the level. I did this by introducing players to the skills required to jump, use jump pads and use arrow blocks in a way that is easy to master.
