The Project:
I created Misty Arrows using the Unreal Development Kit and Kismet. This is a single level 3D platforming adventure game.
The Goal:
In Misty Arrows I focused on pacing and flow by teaching players the main mechanic which is required in order to complete the level. I did this by introducing players to the skills required to jump, use jump pads and use arrow blocks in a way that is easy to master.
What went well:
- It was difficult to tell which direction players should go with the fog all around so I created bright luminescent blocks that guide players throughout the level and gives them a clear sense of direction.
- The pacing was well thought out making it is easy to pick up and play without getting any instructions on what to do.
What I would improve on:
- Some players had difficulty getting accustomed to the speed of the arrow blocks. I would tweak the variables so that all blocks have a varying speed depending on how far they are going to travel.
- The environment is very simple, which is what I wanted, but adding more color to the world would have helped bring about some more flare.
Misty Arrows is a single player experience designed to encourage exploration and discovery.

Overview shot of just about the entire level.

The fog provides a great atmosphere when hundreds of blocks seem to be floating in the air around the player.

When these blocks are shot they move in that direction.

Overview shot of just about the entire level.
A single player level focused on pacing.
